The Chairman, Senate Committee on Industries and the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial, Distinguished Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA on Saturday joined the regent of Ijede, High Chief Musediku Aliu, and the entire people of Ijede Kingdom in celebrating 2022 Ajede Luwasa Day.
Senator Abiru, an ardent lover of culture and tradition, commended illustrious sons and daughters of Ijede who worked tirelessly for the success of the cultural festival. He applauded them for sustaining the celebrations of the rich cultural heritage of the land for more than three decades.
The #DoingGood Senator who was represented by Dr (Otunba) Saheed Oladapo Ibikunle, his Special Adviser on Constituency Matters, who is also a Board Member at Lagos State Universal Basic Education (LASUBEB).
Speaking on the theme , “ Social Impact of Community Active Engagement in Progressives Political Developments”, Senator Abiru emphasised the importance of community engagement in the public policy formulation process.
The Senator disclosed that the engagement he had with people at the grassroots, through a NEEDS ASSESSMENT he conducted shortly after he won the 2020 Lagos East Senatorial District by-election formed the basis for his interventions in various communities in the Senatorial District.
Abiru said in his speech that, “Community engagement, no doubt, is pivotal to political development. When I got into this sacred assignment in December, 2020, I knew that socio-economic and political dividends will most likely elude the mass of our people at the community level without engagements with critical stakeholders at the local level.
“Consequently, I convened a community-based stakeholder engagements with Community Development Committees(CDCs), and by extension, the Community Development Associations(CDAs), artisan and market groups, students, community leaders in the 16 LGs/LCDAs in the Lagos East Senatorial District.
“These crucial engagements led to the NEEDS ASSESSMENT survey that I conducted across the district. The outcomes of the study revealed the different needs of various communities under Lagos East Senatorial District. On the basis of this, the pillars of my representation were formulated”.
Dr Ibikunle reeled out the sterling achievements of Senator Abiru in the last 23 months. According to him, Abiru has performed exceptionally and deserved to be supported and re-elected.
Senator Abiru donated a sum of N1million (One million Naira) at the event.
